john2000
Hi, I am looking for a technique to soften the edges of my grass etc. I was thinking of using some sought of Vray Blend material map to control the blend between say grass and driveway, dirt etc. I am wondering what type of map I could use? What do others use. I usually use photoshop and soften in post prod. I know that gradient maps are used for radial blends but on linear square areas how do you get a blend on all sides. I guess I could create a border like gradient that is square in shape, which could sit on the outside edge of my material ?? Thanks for any of your suggestions:) Edited July 27, 2011 by john2000
Stephen Thomas
Sometimes I do a screengrab of the object in top viewport then bring into photoshop and paint the mask there. Black for one material, white for the other. Then just apply a UVW map with a unique channel no. that corresponds to the mask.
matthewgriswold
I've only seen this plugin before, unfortunately can't speak from the experience of using it, but it sounds like what you need: http://itoosoft.com/freeplugins.php
john2000
hey, thanks for the replies. Stephen, that sound good - could you explain a little more about the use of the uvw map. Is this the blend material that you are talking about and using uvw map in conjunction with it? hey, thanks for the replies. Unfortunetly the itoo plugin is only available for max 2010. I am running 2012 -but thanks anyway.
