Opacity MAP

Hi,

is there a way to give a thickness to a box with an opacity map applied?

 

I need a small thickness in the parts that are cutout from the opacity map. I saw someone in the cgarchitect forum talking about a thickness shader in mental ray but I don’t have a clue where or how to use it?

 

Unfortunately I cant model it because it will be an animated texture applied to a bended plane or box.
