gkanz
Hello Folks. Been a while. Hope all are well. Hopefully someone in the group works with both 3dsMax and Poser ( a 3d Figure and Animation program) and has created either figures or objects in Max and imported them into Poser. My question(s) deal in the scaling of these .objs and how they (hugely) differ when they're imported from one program to the other. When I export a clothing .obj ( or anything else that I convert to an .obj that I'd want to modify in Max) from Poser and import it in Max the scale of that object is so small that you can't work with it in the Perspective View. When I create something in Max and export as an .obj and then import it into Poser the object is quite large compared to the scaling used in Poser. What I'm referencing my scale with are the grids that both programs use. The grids are quite similar but for the sizes of each- Poser 20X20 squares and Max with 14X14. Both of these programs give you scaling options ( (+ -)percentage's ) before the import process. My question (finally) is if there were any settings in Max to be able to adjust the size of the work area (grid size???) where they can be made to the same scale as Poser? Or visa versa? Maybe the answer is in the tweeking of the scaling numbers in the actual import/export dialog boxes and someone with a lot more experience would have no problems doing the math. If thats it then I sure would appreciate one of you people telling me that or anything else that might be of help. This is just a hobby for me and I've been enjoying working with these programs and these inconveniences that I get my self into. Sorry for the length of this. Thanx again for your time. Peace. g
datacrasher
Due to poser does not have a unit or system units setup like max does of course they are gonna be different So you cannot tell poser what scale you want the object to be To my knowledge. so you need to scale it in poser by using the scale tool max does not like you importing and exporting all the time back and forth so before you export your object make sure everything is done correctly then export it. I got a lot of errors when i used poser and export back and forth it was annoying so i got rid of poser and stuck with max. To my 5 years of using max i have not noticed an option where you can increase/decrease the grid. IMO: Keep your thread to the point don't make it so long: Tony
gkanz
Tony, thanx. Using Poser was not for the creation of objects but more for the animation of figures that were and are made easily available for that program. Using 3dMax to create different objects for those animations in poser was just something that was and still is quite enjoyable. But your answers to my inquiry has put that scaling issue to rest. (Finally) Really no biggie and I've been getting around it for quite awhile. As to the length of that post and others in the future, well, my apologies. I will definitly make a better effort at getting more to the point. If this one is also a bit too long for you or others....my apologies, again Peace. g
datacrasher
Yeah i know what poser is i have used it 3 years ago before i could afford max you can create a lot in poser from character, animation clothing, scenes etc but poser is limited in what you can do with it. If smithmicro would make poser with the system units and other stuff then it would have been a lot better but then the price would not be $200 it would be like max NO apologies needed
