tonypernazza
Hey Guys Im a Revit drafter and Ive recently Been givin 3ds Max 2011 to use. Ive noticed I cant get my 3d Max Renders to be as sharp as my revit renders. They come out a little pixely even after a 3 hour render... Each is getting better as I get more and more used to the program but they still seem to be lacking in quality. any suggestions? cheers
Noise
What size in pixels are you rendering at ? I would suggest 2000 pixels and up, preferably 4000 pixels for a sharp high res image.
marius e
The pixels rendered at doesnt make a big difference (depending on print size). I will assume you are using Mental Ray for your rendering. Most common problems when just starting to use 3d max and saving a finished render is the final saving of the image. You can bump up the quality settings etc but if the saving part isnt done correct it is all for nothing. Solution: When saving your image, try to save the file as a tiff. U can use any but a tiff keeps more information. Then, when asked to save image quality (image control), the slider should be set to BEST, file size set to LARGE and smoothing should be set to ZERO, and then save the image. Rendering quality: Sampling quality under the Renderer tab: The sharpest filter is Lanczos, but also render time increase. Sample per pixel: Anything above 1/4 and 4 will be better than the default. Final Gather: Fg point density will make it appear more crisp at the cost of render time. Just play with those combinations to get a feel for it, but it takes time to get an understanding of the settings, once done you will have pretty much a standard that u will use for almost all your images. John Dollus
perhaps posting an image showing the difference would be helpful in guiding you in a more specific direction. the mental ray Ui in revit has fewer options for adjusting the rendering settings so it could be as simple as selecting a different image sampler in the Max render settings but hard to say without seeing the comparison
sanmb
Increase sizeof the render till you get good results.
