mhinks
Hi guys I've just been modelling some components for a techy animation, and I usually use edit mesh. I noticed when I converted to edit poly the face count dropped by about 1/3 to 1/2. But when I rendered it was showing the same amount of faces. Which is true? And will converting to edit poly speed up the render at all, having less faces? Also, a second point, I have 5 odjects all instanced, when I convert one to edit poly then others dont seem to convert also? Thanks
Jim Mann
You can right click in the modifier stack and select "collapse to" to make all instances convert and remain as instances but the object would have to have been an editable poly originally for this to work otherwise they will all covert to editable meshes. Some of the other guys may know how ro make this work for polys. Max 7 is supposed to have an edit poly modifier as a new feature so maybe this will provide a solution in future. Don't know about speed differences between edit meshes and edit polys when it comes to rendering but I always seem to get better results rom the polys and find them much easier to work with. I would be interested to know if there is a speed difference. Jim
mhinks
Thanks for the reply Jim. Ill let you know if I find any speed increases. These perticular models have been made in solidworks, and exported as stl's. So Ive been optomizing and deleting back faces, then converting to edit poly.
