Max 2012 Backburner problems

Did you upgrade your BB manager too? BB2012 isn't compatible with 2010 and depending on how you installed 2011 (there was an option to keep IPv4 of IPv6) that could be causing a problem too.

We were running all 2010 here until a month or two ago when I migrated everything to 2012. That means the manager / workstations are 2012. Any workstations that haven't received an upgrade to 2012 yet had to have a hotfix applied to their install of BB2010 to allow em to communication with the manager.

I spent far too much time a week or so ago trouble shooting and trying to get BB 2012 to work properly... my experience with it is BB 2012 = garbage.

With deadlines looming, etc. my only solution was to re-install 2011.

Are you using VRAY? We made a little progress when we re-installed VRay (along with removing and re-inserting the dongles...). I don't know why this helped though...

My 2012 BB works trouble free using Win7 Pro. At first I had an issue with the manager crashing at startup but after I started running it all as administrator I never had any more problems.

Application load errors and render timeouts were a problem for me years ago and it all came down to memory management on the render servers. I now use 24gb on my workstation and 16gb in the render servers and it all works realy well.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just got this e-mail from Autodesk about Backburner 2012:

"I understand that you have updated to Backburner 2012 for 3ds Max Design 2012 and have been experiencing a few issues with it.

We have had many customer with similar errors when using Backburner 2012. Currently we are recommending that our customers stick with the 2008.1.1 version of Backburner while we work on fixing the defects on 2012. Backburner 2008.1.1 should work fine with 3ds Max Design 2012. We apologize for the inconvenience."

Has anyone seen an official announcement from Autodesk relating to this because I haven't. Does Autodesk even bother to beta test their software anymore because I find it imposable that something like this could slip through the cracks unnoticed!

Hey Devin... sorry I missed your earlier post... yeah, basically they are telling everyone that BB 2012 is a garbage release.

What I meant by my last post was that I re-installed max 2011... not just the BB. I didn't want to screw around with deadlines looming...
