vray in rhino, material and lighting issue!

Hello, new to the forums! but this seems like the place to be :p

I am an architecture student, new to vray for rhino. I have been following the online tutorial series on

http://www.vray.com/vray_for_rhino/manual/index.shtml

and have gone through many of the lessons step by step. When i attempted to create my own model and render it, it resulted with an image that had a very strong yellow/orange hue. Im assuming this is because of sunlight or a default vray light. I have looked through the vray options and disabled environment lighting, GI, ect, but still have no luck. But the files that i downloaded to go along with the tutorials (3dm model files) never seemed to have an issue with the yellow hue.

My quick solution was to enclose the model in a box and set the camera inside of this now dark box, i then attempt to add a square light like in

http://www.vray.com/vray_for_rhino/manual/the_characteristics_of_rectangular_light.shtml

but the light does no good no matter how high i bump up the intensity.

lastly, i downloaded materials and saved them to my vray material folder, but when i try to import into the vray material editor, most result in a window stating that the .vismat is invalid.

Sorry to bring up all these issues at once. But i have a deadline soon, and am growing frustrated and losing hope :(

Thank you
