Sawyer
So Jeff, sounds like you think the days for us little one-man bands are numbered. I am always confused by articles talking about architects doing 3d because in my experaince architects (the ones I have met) are really techno-phobes. But mostly I wold like to hear more about this. And to see if Smoothe needs a janitor
Jeff Mottle
Geez, do you think they could have made that image any bigger! Will have to have a chat with them about that next time. BTW, I've edited that image so that the article is blured. The guys at 3Dworld will not be too happy with me if the article is free for everyone to read online. Especially considering the content. Sorry. You can buy the magazine if you want to read it. True the old-school architects are technophobes, but I think you will find that the vast majority of the people on this site are architects and are far from being technically inept. One man shops will always be around, but in the future I don't think you will find they will be doing the same ammount or type of work they do now. But that is only my opinion based upon what I see and hear. Anyone else is free to come to their own conclusions.
Sawyer
I guess this is something I have to understand because it has come up many times and I have had 180 degree differing experiances from a lot of what I have seen posted on this group. Obviously the people who are on this group are pretty sharp and motivated to stay on top of their game but outside of this group I have found the AEC community to be pretty devoid of computer savy. But this is just me and for whatever reason my wanderings may have lead me to places where I can be the tech head. When I hear people talk about in-house renderings I can't follow because that is completly out of what I have seen. And the quality of the in house stuff that I have run across is still pretty weak - out of the box stuff. Obviously there are more sophisticated areas than Sacramento and maybe I would find the market very different in San Francisco or NY.
