"display as box" problem

sometimes i can`t use "display as box" in object properties as it is greyed out. it seems to happen when the objects are organised in groups and "undergroups, etc". but i don`t know exactly what i can do to fix this.

not enough information to help Max: Can you run through the steps of what your trying to do because i am totally lost If you ungroup your objects is the object properties display as box still hi-lighted?

At a guess, I would say that your groups contain non-geometry elements i.e. helpers, lights etc. that can't be displayed as a box.

 

If so, you could always open the group then select only geometry items and set them to display as box, then close the group again.

thanks for your replies. i found a grid in one group, detached it and now it works fine.

I tried to duplicate the problem and could not. Groups and nested groups did not care how things were set or if there were many different helpers included.

 

What I did notice is that if a group had some things which were boxed and some things which were not then the checkbox displays grayish per the universal "current selection is mixed" convention. This looks grayed, but is still operable.
