Karrde
Hey, what is the best codec to use for a short walktrough that will run on a vanilla windows vista/7? I don't have access to the machine it will be ran on, neither the person using it will be able to tell me if there are any codec packs installed. Therefore I need something that will play on the out-of-the-box Windows. My standard h.246 is probably not an option, and I don't have any more knowlegde about codecs. Joel Gray
Windows 7 should play MP4s out of the box. Plus they can be played on Windows media, Quicktime and all iDevices. I find the presets below to be a good mix of quality and file size, but as Fooch suggests, you may want to render out a couple different codecs just to be safe (like Cinepak perhaps). H.264, NTSC, 1024X768p, 29.97 Baseline, Level 3.1, VBR 1Pass Target 2.04, Maximum 2.31 AAC, Stereo, 48kHz, 128kbps MP4 multiplex, iPod stream
