sspringer
Hi All, I've recently started doing some freelance rendering now that I'm out of school, and am beginning to think I need to to some upgrading. I have an early '09 iMac with the following: 2.93GHz processor NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory 2GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA hard drive Latest version of Snow Leopard (not going to Lion until they convince me all the software bugs are fixed) I have been running mostly ArchiCAD with Artlantis and Cinema4D, CS5 Suite, Rhino & AutoCAD OSX, plus occasional time on VM Fusion running XP for Rhino 4/VRay, Revit, and Ecotect. Lately, whenever I undertake even remotely intensive renders on Artlantis or C4D, my computer is noticeably straining, and I usually can't really do anything else other than very light applications. I started booting into 64-bit and that has helped some, but it still feels like it could use some reinforcement. Any suggestions on how/what to upgrade? Thanks! AJLynn
The memory should be upgradeable. See crucial.com and use their memory picker, and ifixit.com for instructions on doing the install. The CPU and video card aren't, though.
