JasonJohnson
Hey guys just wondering about what to expect pay wise or to ask for? I have an interview coming this next week but dont know much of what to expect or what its like money wise in Rochester, NY. I was hoping some one here may be able to give me some advice? I have 5 years experience and its in my field. Working with 3ds and Flash mainly. any thoughts? Is this area worth a 50-55k a yr job? or would I be lucky to be offered 40k? Im looking but no luck in my research yet! Thanks guys!

cgrant3d
Just become someone reads the thread doesn't mean they've worked in NY, know the answer to your question or whether they're willing to share something personal like salary... :-) You'll probably have better luck checking salary sites like glassdoor.com ... You probably won't find exactly this field but you could use it as a comparison between locations...

notamondayfan
How about trying to figure out living costs, expenses and stuff, and see what is the absolute lowest you would settle for? I'm guessing NY isn't a cheep place to live!
JasonJohnson
that's where I'm at right now thanks guys. Again... just making lite of the situation
Devin Johnston
I'm just going to throw out a number, assuming your portfolio is average I'd ask for something in the 60K-70K range. I could be totally off base because I know New York has some pretty high taxes and cost of living is crazy but in Texas that would reasonable. Gary Ledgerwood
60-70k is pretty high for someone with 5 years experience in the Rochester area. I think 45-55k would be more reasonable. Yes, the cost of living in New York City is high, but not so much in Upstate NY. It also depends on the size firm. Do you care to share where you are interviewing? Devin Johnston
Yea it will depend on the size of the firm and the position he's trying to get, for an intern or an assistant to someone I think Gary is right.
Sourpickles
Yea I can't remember the name quite this second but they are pretty big from what I hear. I have a friend that lives in Buffalo and they use these guys. They do eLearning stuff. They like my portfolio which is mostly Arch and old job stuff. Its like Element I think...? I've been seeing numbers from 35k a year to 75k a year. Im an above avg user. Least I think so and I'm told so. jasonarts.com..... if you guys want to take a look. In any case I thank you all! Guess Ill find out a number in a week or so. They seem to really like me. It gets me out of Florida and back into 3D! That's all I care about. Since I was laid off when the economy took a crap it's been hard going for me. I got sooooooooooooooooooooooo close with Digimation in Orlando.... soooo close. So I'm due!
