wolf40
When caustics on the shadows are much much darker suddenly, it look like the affect shadows option doesnt work anymore. Is there any reason for it ? I use only vrayMtr + targetSpot caustics on caustics off
CliveG
I may be wrong but my understanding is that the "affect shadows" option is a sort of faux caustics algorithm that is over-ridden by the real caustics calculations being switched on. The darker shadows, should then be closer to a real representation than the "affect shadows" quick & dirty effort, obviously intended and more suitable for when objects are further from the camera. I guess if the shadows are too dark you could look to amend your materials definition, lighting etc. to fine tune this. As I say I may be wrong, but hope this helps. Stephen Thomas
Complete-newbie is correct. In this case the shadows should be dark because you have no environment light and the glass is quite thick. By increasing the caustic subdivs for the light and tweaking the global caustic values you will be able to improve the caustics result.
