$500 a week? $500 a month? $500 a day?

It all depends on if you work for yourself, or someone else, who you work for, what country etc

Many people make a living from Arch Vis, both working for themselves or for company, but then again many people work 10hours a day and may not make enough money to live on, it is too subjective a question

Well, some vital point that you guys missed, If you want to get in to the industry keep in mind that you will not only have to buy few different software but also bunch of resources. your competitors will be those youngsters of 3rd world who will do the job in

cheap, with quality, with shorter period of time. they will run enough with $1500 a month. specially youngsters in 3rd world are doing pretty good. so its a tough industry for you if you are not first class in your work.

I apologize I manage to miss the part of the sentence :D

I meant 500$ per month(hahah 500$ per week would be amazing and 500% per day would be sick :D)

I do realize it all, don't get me wrong, I know how delicate all these questions are, I am just trying to hear your approximate thoughts, and at the end of the day - many of you work and earn a living from it, right? Now of course I wouldn't go as far as asking how big your salary is, but I just want to know how likely it is to get to that point where you can earn a living by doing arch-viz, and how much time it takes to get to that point? I think some approximation should exist.

Thank you all for the answers so far!!

Did you calculated your rent? or its the government who pays it? or you have number of children you get money for? I am wondering what would be the case you are satisfied at $500? I am in Bangladesh. and here people can think of it. although no body will appreciate. but you can make a living with that $500 here. is Serbia is going through any disaster?

BTW, and unfortunately if you lack the skill you cant earn that little. because no body is paying for generic work. And experience!!! you cant believe yourself when you grownup gradually. your different of experience will give you flexibility and quick workflow and many more. so client knows that. they do not want to put there effort behind an skilled but an experienced and skilled both.

The first thing you need to know about working in 3D in computer games is that it is not fun. This is a common misconception amongst the public at large, naive people think it involves sitting round playing GTA or Battlefield all day, being wildly creative making up new and exciting environments and characters. The reality is however very different. Generally speaking most games companies make money from franchised game titles, like lego, or barbie or scrabble, and it's rare to get allocated within a game company on an original IP with total artistic freedom. It's laborious, often long hours (without over time) you play the same bug ridden broken game for months on end, years if your unlucky and you have to deal with socially inept programmers and mangers who were put there because they were good at art or code or music and have no idea how to manage. You have publishers who at a whim change their mind which usually results in weeks of work being canned or you having to jump through hoops to hit a deadline. I know this from bitter experience of over 10 years in games working for many different companies. Games companies have a habit of going bust or frequently being taken over as well which makes them a very volatile place to work.

On the architecture point. Whoever implied that you need an architecture degree or qualification to enable to you to work more effectively in ArchVis is speaking from a condescending view point. You certainly need passion for buildings and architecture, and you need a practical understanding of buildings and construction, and you need to be artistic. But when all said and done this is model making, not actual building making which is an entirely different discipline.

@aristocratic3d

Thank you for the kind answer :)

By rent I am not sure what exactly do you mean in this case?

I am 22 years old, I am unmarried, and SO FAR I'm focusing on becoming financially independent, both to unburden my parents financially and to kick-start my working career.

As for my country Serbia, well...considering its horrible life standards and miserable salaries, trust me 500$ is a LUXURY here these days. So if its possible I'd be very happy!

I do understand that I need to have both skill and experience and I am not afraid of that challange at all :)

This really really encouraged me, thank you very much! :)
