Ashleymatthews
Does anybody know how to do a turntable animation in 3DsMax for a demo reel? I will like to show it in rotation going from wire frame to the full rendered piece.
Sketchrender
I presume it render both out, and cross fade in After effects or what ever you are going to put the demo together in.
notamondayfan
If you want to do it all in 3D you could use a blend material and use a gradient as a mix map if you wanted to to fade say from top to bottom. My preference would be to do it in post though.
Stephen Thomas
In terms of the camera movement you would create a circle and add this as a path constraint to your camera, with the target at the centre of the circle.
Ashleymatthews
Thanks for all of your replies but does any of you know of any tutorials that I may could watch in 3ds max or AE about this ?
Scott Schroeder
Or you could just keyframe the object to rotate 360 degrees. No need to mess with cameras. It's probably faster to render the full 360 for both the solid and wireframe, then in After Effects or other program, key the opacity of the wireframe layer. If you render the wireframes as white, you can use screen mode to make them pop out or if you use black wireframes use multiply mode.
Ashleymatthews
Thanks a lot a appreciate it . @ VelvetElvis how do I get the wireframe version in 3dsmax? I don't know how to exactly go about this.
Scott Schroeder
You can use a wire material, or you can use Mental Ray's contour shaders. Vray toon if you have Vray. Here's a handy dandy video tutorial: http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/autodesk-3d-studio-max/3d_cg_vfx_3dsmax_autodesk_vray_rendering_wireframe_overlay/ I skipped through the video, but I think he covers all 3 ways. Standard, Mental Ray, and Vray. So you can choose what works best for you.
