hello,

im usuing autocad for modeling then from max6 - (trail version) i import the dwg files.

now when i was using max5 the import window was soo easy and has control over the objects for example it group certain objects in one layer and you can open close the group and make sub selection wich is very helpful

BUT

in max6 when you import dwg files all the objests in a certain layer will be as one object and you have no option to make sub-selection.???????????????????

and if you uncheck the - combine object by layer - all objects will be given the name 3dsolid which is veeeery diffcult to identify??????

also this prefix problem LAYER

im wondering if there is way to have more control onto the imported objects within the same layer. like max5 style

thanks and regards

hi,

i dont know what exaclty is the problem in max6

i ve been using it in coordination with autocad and it is perfect, well when u export objects that is in one layer.. it will turn into editable mesh, and through it u can select any object by element.

hi guys ,,,,

the problem is that in max 5 when i use to import dwg files from acad 2000

all objects that are in certain layer will be grouped in one group and then you can open to make sub selection modify .....etc which is very helpful

but

im max6 all the objects in a certain layer will be as one object

also the prefix which will be added to the orignal name of the layer for example layer named (wall) in acad in max6 will be l(ayer wall) ???????????/

thnks for your replies

zain

'layer' prefix can easily be removed with the rename tool (remove first six characters on selected objects).

This weekend I experienced another thing with dwg importing however. No matter how high the isolines are put in creation of an extruded curved polyline in ACad, Max will import only few (too few). So working with 3ds is still necessary.

The DWG Import filter still puts them onto the layer that they were created on in AutoCAD, so you can tell basically what they are by the layer, correct? I'm not sure what else it would pick to call the objects, anyway, since you can't define names in AutoCAD, just layer names, and it has to do something with the little darlings.

hi guys:

abicalho: i wish it was the way you said the problem all the objects will be named 3dsolid - NO numbers

ex:

3dsolid

3dsolid

3dsolid

3dsolid

3dsolid

even i tried to copy the dwg import plugin in max5 to max6 but i didnt work?

I know they're all listed 3dSolid.

Look at your layer dialog. Does it have Layers? Do they match the names of the layers in ACAD?

YOu have to think about them as you do in ACAD - think about layers, use layers. The MAX 6 importer is new, different from the MAX 5 one.

If you want the MAX 5 importer inside of MAX 6, get the File Link extension and then you'll have the Legacy AutoCAD importer there.
