Acheng
hi, this is my first try using radiosity for my lighting. usually i use standard light only. i am not familiar with photometric light so i use standard light on radiosity(6 omni and 2 spotlight) with logarithm exposure. plz give me ur comment and guide regard to my scenes. thank alot.. what is vray? can we get it in max 6 or we need to buy it seperately? i also heard about mental ray, which is better between mental ray and radiosity in max(soorry, i am new bie) and compare to vray. why the table didn't receive enough light to lighten its leg?(i set the 6 omni up at the ceiling). regard, acheng
Harjeet Singh
vray is rendering plugin by chaosgroup.com. a free version is available to download. MentalRay comes with max 6. and btw Radiosity and GI are bit different. By using photometric light you would get more real-life effect in radiosity while GI gives you secondary/indirect lighting effect which depict the real life renderings. IC
The lights are all above the table so the tabletop is casting shadow on the legs. Place a light with no shadows under the floor to help simulate light bounce. Also, it looks odd that all the lights are casting shadows but they have no apparent source. ipdesigner
nice try acheng!!... something to point out, why dont you use the photometric-free point light, for me this is better that standard light-omni. it really has a big different after rendering. it will answer your questions about the shadows. try to adjust also the mappings of your floors, its kinda too wide....or have you tried using the material/map browser-BLEND? Acheng
thank alot... its really great to be in this site coz most of the members are very very willing to help those who just starting learning 3d. i got alot from this site and i will also show them to my friend in my country. i really proud of you all. here i attached the scenes which i added the wood material for the table and the cabinet. i know it's quite weird about the material on my scene. that's because i just want to concenstrated on to the lighting and improve it first. hi guys, what is your comment about my latest scene now? is it real enough(the lighting part) or should i do some changes... sorry for too long.. i used to heard that we need ies.file when we use photometric light(is to complex for me). thank alot guys, you are all the best!! keep a good job. i will always support this site.. regard, acheng

Jason Matthews
The zip file has a virus in it. My Panda Antivirus found it. Was the virus intentional?

Jason Matthews
No problem Sherwin. I use Panda Antivirus instead of Mcafee and Norton. I have found that viruses have specifically attacked Symantic software such as Norton Antivirus. A virus attacked my Norton last year and disabled it. Then let in about 100 viruses at once. Needless to say, I had to reformat. I have been using Panda for about 8 months and it works great. Here is the link. http://www.pandasoftware.com I have Platinum 7.0 which has a built in firewall. You can try it free for 30 days. It searches email (Outlook) on email start up. 1 year subscription is $70 U.S. Give it a try. -Jason
