digitawn
If you use lightwave 10 you can use the fbx export, it will export uvs etc as well but you will need to tweak the surfaces, its something they have been improving so the latest 10.1 is the best, if you have an older lightwave you may be able to use the lightwave 10 trial to export the scene but i am not sure on the limitations also there is a 3d max export option from lightwave but it is limited to 64000 polys
jzon
thanks for the advice digitawn, anyway do you mean, after we open it in 3dmax, all the LW modelling that we've been doing in several layers will appear in one single scene in 3dmax?, and is it possible that the modelling and surface be select separately or do we have to convert it to editable mesh/poly? digitawn
as far as i was aware it comes as is in layout, so you export to FBX from lightwave layout and that will export a file that has the animation and each of the layers of the LWO comes as a seperate object in max or maya, it should have all the surfaces asigned with images, but usually you have to change atribrutes like the spec, luminosity and difuse once you have it in max and maya, sorry i am not a max user so i cant give you the real lowdown, but i have started to look at it for file conversions on sites like turbosquid and have only had a chance to load a couple of sceens up but not play with them
