sky
I've been using the new demo and checking out works online. I love what sketchup does with the quality of the image, it's really does look like a sketch. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to just buy a copy so do any of you know of free/cheap add-on software for Max or Autocad to get a similar effect? Craig Ramsay
How about using the toon rendering with ink and paint materials?
Brownie
Don't have the $$ for Sketchup??? Maybe that's because you spent it all on Max and AutoCAD :-P

GaryR50
There are a few products out there that will acheive pretty much the same look, however, if that's all you want out of SketchUp, you've missed the whole point of it. Sure, it's billed as a tool for "sketch based design," but the point is not to emulate a sketch so much as it is to facilitate rapid, easy modeling for designers who don't have the time, the money or the patience to deal with the high price and high learning curve of other apps, such as 3D Studio Max, Maya, etc. For most of us using SketchUp, the look of a SketchUp render is incidental to its value as a quick concept modeler, and many, if not most, use a third party renderer for final images, anyway.
