clubber2k
I know intel GMA are BAD BAD BAD! but they're really cheap.. I need to buy a laptop, only to view / showcase 3d models (and some 2d CAD) for clients on meetings. I won't be doing much work on it but I do need it to run & run o.k. - I will be doing: loading, viewing, rotating the mdodel & etc. I won't be: designing drawing modeling & rendering on it. I really need the minimum specs (graphics card to be exact) for: 3ds max sketchup CAD what do you say? can intel GMA (Which is cheap) do it? thanks! AJLynn
I would not try to run those on an Intel GMA. Go to the link in my signature and most of the ones in the laptop list there are better...
clubber2k
Thanks for the response. I am aware that they are not recommended but I'm trying to figure out if they are just "not cool" or really totally un-usable for my purposes? plus I live in Israel, not all of the laptops are avilable here and except for MAC's (which I dislike) most of the 13'' laptop use intel gma. Except for a few that use basic readon or gefore, are they better? here are the best I can get for a reasonable price that don't use intel gma use one of the following: ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470 ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4330 NVIDIA GeForce G310M NVIDIA GeForce N105M ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 are they any better? which are the better ones? they are all pretty basic right? 10x p.s. some of laptops on you're link also have intel GMA so... AJLynn
Yeah, the ones on the list with the Intel graphics aren't for 3D use. From your list I'd go with the Radeon 5470.

I knew you'd say that since he's the newest of them. Last question (I hope), I saw allot of notebooks with in my budget with GeForce GT 520M (and one with 420M) how are they? I tried to look into them on Nvidia's website but they barley had any specs on them. what I remember from when I bought my desktop copmuter last year is that max&sketchup require (for now) pixel shader 3, and one more feature. but that information isn't avilable on nvidia's site and looking into autodesk site now, I cant find what the other feature was.. any idea? AJLynn
All the current model GPUs have the needed compatibilities, it's just a question of how fast the GPU is. The 520M is far from the fastest thing nvidia makes but it beats the intel and I think it comes with it's own memory (as opposed to borrowing memory from the system like the intel does) which is a pretty big improvement.
