sinister_designs
Hi, I am a new student who wants to build a new system for my schooling along with a very limited amount of gaming probably just a bit of warcraft from time to time. I was hoping someone here could advise me if this was a OK system for a student who will be studying and using Solidworks, Autocad and 3DS Max along with your usual, office and browsing etc. My budget for systems is around $750 and about $400 for monitors 2 x http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=320-9511 My newegg list http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=17221372
sinister_designs
OK so I have purchased the sysem as per below. I am setting it and wanted to ask a quick question or two. Are there any tricks/tips to setting up the dual monitors so that they work at there best or just go with the default settings win/ati use? Any tips on setting up Win so it performs better or more stability etc? Should I just leave the cpu or do I need to overclock it any? - Corsair CX-430 - Gigabyte GA-Z68P-DS3 - Intel i5 2500K - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB DDR3 1333 RAM - ATI FIREPRO V4800 - 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 - DUAL Dell P2311H monitors - Win 7 Pro 64bit Regards Jason
AJLynn
Oh, hey, missed your first post but don't worry about any tricks yet - just do the basic assembly and software install and plug in the monitors where they fit, let Windows use Extended Displays mode, and don't worry about overclocking right now. Make sure everything is working first, and then if you want to OC you can, but look up a good guide to that and monitor temperatures carefully. I can see two reasons OC may be difficult: OC increases power usage and you don't the highest capacity power supply, and usually you want and upgraded CPU heatsink and fan because the increased power use leads to increased temperature. sinister_designs
Thanks for the reply. I have no real great desire to OC or anything and if the need did arise I would upgrade stuff as required. I have just let windows do it things with the monitors and that is fine also, I was just curious if there was a better way really. Thanks again
