k-ram
Hello all, I realize that quite a few of you have problems with Backburner 2012. After upgrading from Max design 2010 to 2012, Backburner stopped working. When trying to run manager.exe, server.exe or monitor.exe, nothing happened. After downloading the lates version of BB (2012.1.0), I was prompted to uninstall BB 2012.0.0. This didnt succeed as I got this message: "Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected." I did not find any working solution to this on the web, have anyone experienced a similar problem? As for now, I don't get the chance to use BB 2008 or any any other working alternative. Thanks for any useful tip, Knut
Scott Schroeder
If you are in a later build of windows, sometimes running those exes as an administrator helps. Even if your log in is an admin log in, right click the exe and choose run as administrator. Do this when you install/uninstall as well. Also check that windows firewall, if it's on, is not blocking those programs. It's notorious for that. When you say nothing happened, is the process in the task manager but the windows don't show up or does it not fire up at all?
k-ram
Thx for answering. OS: win xp 64-bit run as admin for both unistall and repair fails with different errors. The uninstall fails with : Error 1722: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. The repair fails with : Error 1316 A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:\download\MAX 2012\backburner.msi The firewall is off, thou inside a firm network... It does show for a second in task manager, and then dies. Running the “c:\program files\autodesk\backburner\managersvc.exe” -i in a cmd windown with admin rights results in Error no access to: ERR: Failed to open C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\backburner\backburner.xml: Access is denied. (0x5). Error initializing manager Now wonder since the xml file is missing...
Scott Schroeder
This sounds more of a network security/write access issue rather than backburner itself. Check with your IT or whomever controls the firm's network. The xml should be created/updated on launch. Do you have rights to every folder or are you on a restricted network? The access denied warning seems as if you are restricted from writing to certain locations. The security settings are not allowing backburner to create the xml file, therefore backburner can't launch anything.
k-ram
thanks again, the funny thing is that two other XP64 bit machines on the network do function well...however, on these I have not tried to upgrade BB from 2012.0.0 to 2012.1.0 Another weird thing is that I get the same errors on a new Windows 7 laptop (when I try to remove the software, the errors are equal. However, when I try to repair, I get the error that Internet Explorer 6(!) or higher should be installed) This goes for BB 2012.0.0 from the native Autodesk 3D Studio MAX Design DVD. I have removed older Windows.net installs (prior to 3.5) Knut Edited October 3, 2011 by k-ram
RCG
I have the same problem. I’m running Max 2012 on win 7 64bit i7-2630QM CPU (Asus model). Thisoccurred before and after trying to install backburner 2012.1.0. I have also tried reinstalling windows andMax several times with no luck. Managerwill launch, Monitor will launch but Server will not. I cannot uninstall server or reinstall itwithout an error. On the uninstallationof backburner I get “error 1722. There is a problem with this windows installerpackage. A program run as part of thesetup did not finish as expected.” when trying to repair it with any version ofbackburner, I get “error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting toread from the file D:\.....\backburner.msi”. This basically makes my laptop useless on the render farm. My 4 other win 7 machines on the network have no problems.
