Jeggy
I just wanted to say that, buying 3ds in India for example, is probably a waste of money. Buying it, say, in Germany, is probably a very good investment. Czech, Slovak republic etc. i dont know where they stand, so it's up to you to come to a conclusion. Max is cheaper in US than in Europe... Well I think that here in Czech republic it doesnt have to be a bad investment. Maybe I will not have that much work from local architects but what if I want to create visualizations as freelancer over the internet.
Lutz1973
It was a really huge investment for me to buy 3DS - I even had to borrow money from my gf - but once you took that hurdle it's not such a big deal paying 550.-€ once a year for a subscription renewal. I really can't understand why I see so much people using outdated versions here as it is so much cheaper to be on subscrition than to update. Using warez is certainly not an option. I want to be paid for my work so autodesk should be paid for their work, that's it. It's so easy to get rid of a competitor using warez, not only in the US : https://reporting.bsa.org/r/report/add.aspx?src=us&ln=en-us Edited October 24, 2011 by Lutz1973

Lutz1973
Yep, you can go back to older versions, but to be honest, I never had any problems using the latest release.... One reason for that might be that I alway wait for the first hotfix or service pack before I upgrade.

kenpimentel
Since release 2011 we've added a "save as 2010" feature to help you preserve your data when you work with newer features. Subscription allows you to use at least 3 versions back.

Jeggy
I just learned that the license for 3D MAX Design 2012 in US is almost half the price as in EU. Why is it so? in US it costs about 3500$ in EU it costs 4500€ which is 6300$. Why should I pay double the cost of the product just because i live in Europe? I think that this is unfair. pailhead
On top of that renderings in the US cost thousands of dollars, and in your part of the world... hundreds.

erkutacar
hey i love the concert hall building.. did u design it urself?
Jeggy
Well, it is not really a design or something like that. It was just a quick idea when I was learning how to create materials using composite mapping. I needed something simple to try it on and that concert hall is what it came out of it

I not sure what drives that price difference. Does seem a little unfair. However, it just compounds the argument that you shouldnt use Max if its toolset is above and beyond what you need. Since I diversified from arch-vis and started working with more motion graphics people, animators and retouchers, I've realised that max is not the be-all and end-all. Its actually an extremely difficult tool to use. Thats because its designed to do everything and let everything plug into it. Its not nodal, its not 'automated' its not anything specific. People who use C4D think youre CRAZY to work in max. People who use Sketchup get everything done quicker and just as well. So dont feel you have to purchase Max. If you need to use Realflow, fumeFX, Particles, IK, bones, metaballs, Mental Ray, Xref your teams updatable progress and maintain current Acad live links all out of one project file....then yes, Max is a good tool. If you just need to render some buildings then you have a wide choice of solutions and pretty much all of them have some kind of a free trial. Jeggy
Well i dont really know what punitive import tariff is, but should there be any import payments for a software which you register and downloaded from the autodesk site?
