Jonathan
Having purchased the components for the 3DATS, 'midrange' workstation and having it set up by a professional I was surprised to see the system placed on the SSD with the HDD totally empty. My hardware knowledge is currently pretty shakey so forgive me but surely the SSD is only for caching and should be empty? I'd be grateful for your thoughts... AJLynn
Normally you'd install the OS and most often used software on the SSD and use the HDD for storage space.
Jonathan
Thanks for that Andrew, I feel better now
JonRashid
I now use 2 SSD's with a 3rd HDD. I have my OS and software on the primary with all my data on the HDD. I then use my 2nd SSD to store the project I am currently working on. This way data loading does not bottleneck performance speed. I have to say just having the adobe suite open as soon as I click on icon saves me hours. My max tends to stay on until I turn off pc d#so i only see the real benefit once a day for that software
Roodogg
So an SSD is a good investment then? Does it speed up rendering times? I'm not that well informed on how much loading goes on after clicking render.
AJLynn
An SSD speeds up booting, loading programs and loading and saving files. Render times don't rely on drive speed - what makes a render fast is CPU speed and having enough RAM.
Devin Johnston
I've found that the SSD's are incredabley fast when you first get them and after a while they do slow down a bit but they are still faster than regualr hard drives.
Elliot
Interesting thread. My experience is the same as Devin. They have slowed down but they are still faster than the regular drives.
