braddewald
http://laughingsquid.com/new-software-system-for-realistically-adding-objects-into-photos/ I came across this recently and thought it looked promising on it's face but you have to wonder what kind of input it needs to get those effects. It might be good for doing minor corrections to an image without completely re-rendering it, but the creator doesn't go into too much detail about the actual process. Has anybody else seen this? What are your thoughts?
Justin Hunt
My understanding is that its a white paper presentation, so still far too early to be commercially available. It does look good though. jhv
wasteland giant
was blown away by how great it worked and how good the results looked. just wow.
Cyberstyle
Isn't this just a similar/same program to the Autodesk ImageModeler software released in 2009?
RyderSK
Isn't this just a similar/same program to the Autodesk ImageModeler software released in 2009? I don't think so, I played around with Image modeller for my photogametry project in school, and it's rather long/semi-complicated process to create actual 3D geometry, something that is now possible to do with newer technology much easier, such as Autodesk Photofly. This solution simply lets you do simple compositing into photograph, without the need of having HDRi of that place, and it's rather user friendly. Ernest Burden III
Well, this solution does a bit more than that. It is mostly a photo-modeling app, which is not so new, but they've added some tools to find simplified versions of the lighting in the image and model that, too. Then you add new geometry and the lighting seems oh-so-real. It's not new--it's the old-school method of calculating lighting angles from an image so you can render something new. You did it with vanishing points and triangles and such. It's just a lot easier this way. So you take reverse-engineering a perspective one step further and also plot the position of point, area and infinite lights and then make those 3D aspects of a scene file. That's what this solution does. It's possible now with existing tools, but it's still an impressive demo.
