Brodie Geers
Currently I'm looking at Archvision's 2.5D people. Are there any good alternatives? I don't see any comparable product to their 2.5D people and I've yet to see 3d people look good in an architecture animation. Are there any other possibilities? -Brodie
Devin Johnston
Don't buy Archvision people if your using Vray they flat don't work and just so you know they don't interact with GI dispite what they clame. Take a look at AZYZ Design's people, while they aren't as realistic they are easy to use and they work great with GI engines. They also have lot's of pre-rigged people for animations and they have a new utility that lets you create very complex animations.
Brodie Geers
Well, I'll be running some tests with the Archvision people next week (with their watermarked trial version) so that'll give me a better idea of what those look like. I see the preanimated Axyz people. They look decent but there's not much variety there. Any other similar products to that? -Brodie
Devin Johnston
There are tons of 2D billboard people out there but they won't work in an animation, Archvision and AXYZ really are the only two options in this case.
Scott Schroeder
2D people work as long as you don't spin the camera around them. However, if you have bad people footage (even if you have the best footage) matching the lighting can be an issue. The only other option is to purchase green screen people and either use them on image planes or insert them in post. There are a lot of green screen/blue screen and pre-keyed footage out there. Though, sometimes this footage is expensive. For interiors, sometimes I'll take the alpha of the green screen person and just make a white/gray architectural cut-out of a person. It can work if that's a style you are going for. You don't always need to use real people either. I though this company did an interesting job with combining more sketch style people into their video: http://vimeo.com/24157361 But, again, very simple camera moves are needed.
