Mandy_Moo
Hey guys/gals! Hope your all well. Im writing today with some help, I am new to mental ray (used to use Vray but wasn't getting the results i wanted) so bare with me if i ask some stupid question ever! haha! I am doing an interior for an office and have come across some bad reflection in glass. I have attached an image (image 1). Basically its rendering the environment that is coming from behind the camera but it is rendering it really dark. Very odd!! So i didnt know if this is a common problem. To eliminate that problem i just then decided to keep it a plain wall behind the camera, how ever when i render it the far left corner is quite dark (image 2), so if i was to go this route what would be the best way to get it evenly lit. I have rendered it by using daylight system with mrsun and mr sky and sky portals at the window and. I am also using Gamma 2.2. Hope this make sense. Sorry again if i'm being stupid! just looking for some general advice how furthering the render. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Francisco Penaloza
Mental Ray is a very straight forward tool, if you didn't have a wall in your left side for sure your scene will be brighter than the one with the wall. Any office building in real live will not only depend of exterior light to proper illuminate the interior space. So I think your second image is right, you only need to add some interior lighting to proper illuminate your office. If you are getting strange reflections, check if your glass model is single or double face mesh, and adjust your glass material to correspond. let me know if this help. For interior lighting, you can use only Sun sky, sky portal and Final Gather, but if still your scene is to dark you may need Photon mapping, but for what I see here, with Final Gather and a proper illumination you should be good.
