Illuminated facade

Hi Peeps,

I've made this organic form for my architecture studio assigment - its a semi transparent plastic/vinyl skin.

I'd like to do a night render of the facade - with it lit up.

Whats the best process.. should I fill with lights inside or use glowing material..

Cheers for your thoughts

If you want to create a night scene then use the daylight system

The problem is with the lights are for a light, the light will not go through the bulb the light will just blackens the bulb up so i would use the onmi light under the light then add the effect from the environment menu then effects then add a lens and then add a glow.

are you using a floor lamp? if so then add 2 spotlights one going up to the ceiling and one pointing down to the floor use advice shade to get the right effect when you increase the spotlight brightness.

Thanks for the response guys.

Just to give you a heads up - this is my studio model:

So trying to get the skin to glow - the inside is populated with a few levels etc might be nice to see a vague shadow of those, but more importnatly is that awesome night look.

I'm not sure what renderer your using Micheal If your using mental ray then you could add a neon light effect but i don't know how that is gonna turn out

So if you open your render dialog and switch to your MR renderer, Then select an empty slot in your material editor click on standard double click on the Mental ray in basic surface click on none a double click on glow/lume this will add it to the none box change the glow color (colour) to whatever you want it to be on the brightness change from 3.0 to about 7.0. Go back up-to parent and copy that in the shadow as an instant and not a copy now render your stone. to get a better effect i would turn on your GI and FG put the bounces up-to about 2 to 3 depending on your graphic card if you pass about 8 bounces it may crash your scene,

awesome night looks is depending how your using your material editor or your enviroment map and what kind of sky your adding.
