Idiots guide to rendering animated water

Hi all,

I'm sure similar questions have been asked before and i've certainly found topics that discuss my query but i haven't found a step by step tutorial.

I'm trying to create a city quayside scene, in which there is a slow moving river. However, i'm not sure how to achieve such an output. I believe its something to do with animating mutiple noise maps, but so far my attempts have failed.

Could anyone provide a simple step by step guide to animating a flowing river, or point me in the direction of a suitable tutorial.

Thanks!

J

example in the top view create a plane Name it water go to the wave space warps Geometric/Deformable then create a wave now bind the wave to your plane turn on your autokey and move the time slider up to 10 and change the amplitude 1 move the time slider up again to 20 change the amplitude 2 to whatever you want. Keep doing this until you have enough keys now turn the autokey off now play your animation you will see your water move

in the material editor choose an empty slot see the diffuse pick the colour (color) swatch and change it to a light blue then assign it to your plane take the opacity down to about 15% add a raytrace map in the reflections take that to 15% now render again. You won't see it move unless you have the time range set if you put a box or another object on the water you 'll see the reflections
