branskyj
Hi all, Does anybody know if using an SSD hard drive could improve the thumbnail loading times for large HDR images. I am currently using a Seagate Baracuda 7200RPM hard drive and if I try to open a folder with many large HDR images inside it takes a long time for their thumbnails to appear in the explorer window. Of course indexing the folders help but that is not a permanent solution. Since SSDs are much faster traditional HDDs would I benefit in upgrading? Thanks. RyderSK
I am using a 64GB ssd I bought for system only and I am bashing my head that I didn't plunge for atleat 128 ! It's so much faster and QUIET :- D SSD is definitely the way to go
branskyj
That's good news, but I already knew that. My question is a bit more specific- do you have any large HDR images and have you noticed any speed improvement in terms of thumbnail loading time. Cheers, mate. Since I have only 64GB I don;'t store textures on it, but I tried your question with simple experiment. Put my Arroway folder on my SSD and thumbnails did load considerably faster. Not sure about HDRis, since I don;'t have any really big on hardrive.
branskyj
Hey thanks for trying, RyderSK. I guess that solves my dilemma for now at least. Thanks a bunch.
notamondayfan
To be honest, what I find best to do is to save each HDR as a jpg in the same folder for quick previews. No loading time there!
branskyj
I guess that will work, but I have hundreds of HDR images and just don't have the time to save them as JPEGs.
