Lo-profile fan for i7 2600 and mini ATX motherboard

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am currently looking for alternatives to my existing render farm (I have 2 render nodes stacked in a modified filing cabinet). Currently I am using micro ATX motherboards and i7 920s but am thinking about going for i7 2600k and mini ATX.

I am aware of the possible issues- noise and heat. But...if i7 2600k runs cooler than i7 920 and noise level is not that much of an issue WHAT lo-profile CPU fans would you recommend I should use?

My aim is to keep everything as compact as possible. I am even getting a lo-profile power supplies and will definitely find a new "house" for the new render nodes.

Thanks a lot guys.

Case ventillation strategy is probably more important than the CPU cooler in small builds such as these. I would assume you do not plan to overclock since most cases in this size range will not accomodate a large cooler. In this case the stock cooler should be sufficient, but clean off the stock thermal compound and invest in some arctic silver.

Thanks for the quick response, beestee

No, I will not overclock the CPUs. As to the stock cooler that come with the i7 2600k- I suppose it will be sufficient but I don't mind spending some more money on an after-market low-profile coolers. I know I said noise level and heat are not that much of an issue but if I had chance to avoid them while keeping low profile I would go for it.

Thanks for the response.
