What is your Remote desktop strategy?

I believe that many of you, just like me, sometimes have to work on a remote connection to you workstation.

I'd like to know how you connect as I'm trying new VDI (Virtual desktop infrastructure) strategies for my company.

A common solution is of course the Windows RDP or a standard VNC. How does these work for you? I have never been able to use any of these solutions as they are too CPU consuming, doesn't handle OpenGL and produce too high latency.

TeamViewer is a bit better as it let's the server do the rendering and sends JPG screenshots to the client. Never tried yet but been thinking of...

The idea of virtual machines is the most appealing to me right now. Citrix has got specialized technology for distributing high quality 3D graphics over remote but I don't know how good it works or if it even does... I'm having a sales representative from Citrix to call me to explain this more further.

I'd love to hear about your remote desktop experiences!

I was using Ultra VNC and another software for a while. But there was always that lag in the response time no matter how I tweaked the options.

I have a small render farm so all I did after was to lay some LAN cables and get some more peripherals.

Then I heard of a thing called KVM switch but it was too late :)

I did use team-viewer for a short time actually, during which I only had laptop around with me, and worstation at home. I did use it for Octane render and it's real-time previewing and it worked fine ;- ) Sometimes it did produces some color glitches, but I didn't use it for too long to bother figuring it. Give it try ;- )
