djoshi
I have to model a terrain with large & heavy contours.. Have tried terrain option from max..max crashes on that..?? I am also trying & splitting ACAD lines into chunks but it takes lot..lot of time as terrain is huge.. anyone has got idea about how to do that??or any good plugin?? pl help..Thanks.. Matt McDonald
This topic is covered quite heavily and frequently here. Just earlier this week I was reading another thread on the exact same topic and there were quite a few good suggestions offered. I think your best bet here is to take advantage of the search feature. BrianKitts
by heavy do you mean the splines from autocad have too many vertices? try using the normalize spline modifier to simplify your spline. Depending on how accurate you have to be with your terrain, also try eliminating every other spline. (or more)
cafric1
Google search the weed.lsp for ACAD. nWEED removes extranious verticies from LINEs or a POLYLINE nShort segments less than the specified leg length ...AND... nhaving an offset distance less than the minimum distance
pailhead
Just keep in mind what scale are you working in. I think that normalize spline has a default value, which can often be small, might crash your max as well. Once you get a good size segment for normalize spline, id copy paste that particular modifier onto other splines, rather than applying it from scratch. djoshi
thanks guys.. Normalize seems to be not working..might found the reason that when i go vertex n select individual vertex n move, it is separate..now how can weld these trillions of vertexes..?? some of them r really closed might catch each other..dont know. marius e
I have realised that max handles terrain easier when you attach all the splines, and then just ad terrain, instead of selecting one spline and then clicking on the opperand button to select the others. That strains max.
