dhruv990
Ok so I have these elevation drawings but my main problem is that no two sides of the house are exactly the same, so I need to set up all of the elevations to start modeling. I have learnt how to add background images but seeing that I would be needing all the pictures I can't just use 3. How do I set up the pictures to model the house? Thank you for any info you can provide.
datacrasher
what kind of elevations do you need? how are you going to model the house box model or using AEC? why cannot you use all three photos? as long as you have the exterior of the building and the way the floor-plan (blueprint) is done inside then it should not matter about 3 photos

Now the problem is that I want to be able to model the entire model while constantly looking at the all the elevations to check whether everything is correct or not. I'm using box modeling for making the walls. I tried using the images as a background image, but what may appears to be correctly placed in one view is way off to the side or down below in another. This is even after correcting the ground level of all images in photoshop. Is there a way I can get all the images to show up within 3ds max at the same time? datacrasher
have you loaded them into the viewport? you can do this by using a plane and then assigning them images to it and loading them into the viewports your photo don't have to be a 100% correct so long as you can follow the images it should not matter. when i first start modeling with AEC i get all the information i need height and length of the building and what kind of stuff I need then follow them without loading them into the viewport because it becomes a real hassle because you have to freeze the planes make them see-through etc

So I have loaded top, front and left. But now if i want to start modeling the right portion(like windows and other details) i have to completely get rid of one image, Is'nt there any way around this? And I did try it with the plane but some view or the other always blocks it.
datacrasher
if you load in the top view the way the layout of the building where you can see the walls the living room the bathroom etc then it should be simple then load the front of the building in the front view and the left side of the bulding in the left viewport then you should be half way there. Then you can start modeling

Anyway I've made my life a little simpler by switching to spline modeling and then using the extrude modifier, completed work that took me days to figure out earlier in a matter of minutes. YAY SPINE MODELING!!!

YAY SPINE MODELING!!! hey buddy u'll need to setup units in 3ds max then import the cadd Drawing which u ll need to clean up in cad first before importing import only things u ll need to create building so it will be fast !!!! I'm not using cad files as of now but instead jpegs that I got off google. I'll keep that in mind when modeling from cad files though. Thanx! Dave Buckley
load all jpegs in onto planes and then make the 'blocking' plane see-through via the object properties or Alt+X? or just make the material on the planes semi-transparent?
