michael_b
hello , a girl friend of mine sent me a link to listen to a song from "the eagles". the title of the song is: "learn to be still". here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjBvxyEAyos&feature=related i am wondering what she wants to tell me with this message. i really don't know the meaning of "learn to be still" - i mean in the context of this song. does it mean: "shut up, be quiet" or "don't bother me". or did she sent me a message with a deeper sense, which i am not able to discover due to my lack of knowledge of the english language. please be serious to give me a hint !! maybe you have a german translation of "learn to be still" which is not so imprecise as the google's translation of the lyrics of this song. thanks, m.b. Stephen Thomas
I wouldn't say it's a well known or used phrase outwith this song. But I reckon in this context it means to learn to be calm and less restless. To pause and appreciate what's around you rather than always racing ahead to the next thing. To live in the moment rather than always looking to the future. That's just my interpretation though. What this means in terms of your relationship to your friend, only you can say. Or maybe she just likes the song and wanted to share it with you!
