adambwright
Hello, We are starting to do more interior renderings, now using the latest version of Maxwell, and cannot get our outputs any better than this, see attached. This rendering ran over the weekend for 50hrs! But we also noticed that it only sampled 18 times?? I imagine there is something basic we're missing, but we can't figure it out. We've got many interior light sources set up and use the sky dome at a low setting. Have the EV set higher than recommended for interior in an effort to help the issue: 14. Image size is about 1000 x 800. what are recommended values for fstop, shutter and ISO? Thanks in advance for the help. I've noticed other posts that speak a little about this issue, but none have an answer that helps.

brucehamilton
Is there an answer to that question? could not find!! i've got similar problems and did a lot of "scientific" research the last weeks, based on many other similar bugs other maxwell users report in various forums. - its not because of Caustics, I've turned them off (direct/indirect) - its not because of pure white, I changed it to 240/240/240 - its not because of the Sun, I raised the amount of "Scattering Asymmetry" within the "aerosol properties" - its not because of lights, i've rendered without every single light emitter a time - its not because of bump maps or displacements, I've changed the materials - its not because of indoor/glass, I removed the glass out of the window frames - its not because of High or low roughness, I've no roughness 0 or 100 materials (anymore) - its not because of low SL, the effect does not disappear at SL>18 and 18hs of rendertime My feeling is, the effect is evoked when you have a very shining, especially white material (car paint) combined with bumped and/or displacement-mapped materials. The effect increases in indoor renderings, meaning when the sun has to come through windows. any new ideas anywhere?? tzahi1980
hey, make sure that none of your total layers is more then 100%
Mario Pende
Try changing your white to something like under 200.
jameswilliams1
Hi I took a quick look at the render and uploaded a modded version for you. http://www.dynamic3d.co.uk/help/modded.jpg Don't know if that helps you out, I mean without the source file its hard to give advice, beyond make sure no RGB values exceed 222 and you are using materials from their website to ensure you have made no mistakes with key values. Also enable multi light and play around with the different light types and keep REFRESHING as this can have a huge impact on noise. Ambient lighting seems to give off more noise when its lighting interiors, consider a NO SKY and a large emitter outside (large as in2-3 times the scene-about 100 meters away from the window) Also you have quite a lot of white in there, try changing the bed spread colour and back walls to a darker coulour (white reflects noise-Dark Absorbs ut!), also the main thing is to ensure you render the image as HIGH rez as possible, so even if you only want a 1280x1024, try and render it at 3840x3072 and then down size. A 3840x3072 at SL 15 will look better than a 1280x1024 at SL18. Don't forget a good noise software will help you out too, Maxwell has its pro's on the outset it allows anyone to get a decent looking render and that is true, but the truth is, you will become more productive if you use mental ray or Vray.
