BKE
I am a brand new VRAY user. I have been reading/viewing all the tutorials that I can find. I have attached a file to this posting. There are strange highlights on the trim. In some instances, there is window trim that is under an 8'-0" deep porch. Somehow the 1 1/2" deep trim piece is catching light and reflecting it upwards against the building. The trim is a basic white VRAY material. I welcome any suggestions. Thanks!! anejo
Could you post your vray setting?
BKE
Thanks, Anejo. I have attached all of the settings as screen shots. I also included my Sun settings. I will put the Material settings in the next reply. Thanks again! Brian
BKE
This post has my material settings. The white "Trim Boards" material is casting the unusual light. Thanks!
anejo
There are a couple thing you can try. The first is changing the Image Sampler (antia-aliasing) from Adaptive Subdivsion to Adaptive DMC. However, keeping your current filter (Area, size 1.5) The only other thing i see that unusal is in the Vray Sun parameter, and that's the Photon emit radius. I don't have a complete understanding of this parameter, but i've never seen it set this high. You currently have it at 50'. Try lowering that to just a few inches. Hope this help. Good luck! RyderSK
Do a test with VrayOveride material set on gray to see if the problem persists

The Adaptive DMC did not help matters. If anything, the strange highlights were enhanced. The Vray Sun parameter WORKED! I brought the photon emit radius to 6" and the shadow bias back to 2.25". I am not certain which one of those were the determining factor. It might actually be the shadow bias. I had 'tweaked it' to make it brighter beneath the porch. However, I adjusted a lot of other settings along the way and did not recall the possibility of that 'tweak' being my problem maker! Thank you. RyderSK suggested: Do a test with VrayOveride material set on gray to see if the problem persists. I did not try that on the material since the sun settings corrected the problem. HOWEVER - I researched this and it will help me to keep the grass from making my building green. This is a very user friendly, powerful shader override. Thank you! I welcome any other observations of my settings. Thank you all!! Brian
