valeriomanfredi
Hi all, i need help with modelling this arc. I've created a circle, converted to spline and leaved only the semicircle, then extruded. Now the problematic part: i need to make the three internal chamfers; i've tryed with shape merge, lofting and conform, but with the same poor result in the upper circular part, polygons crossing and a resulting bad model. Can someone help me. Thanks.
RyderSK
Easy way to do it is like this: You need two splines. One is the "rail" the leading profile, the half-circle spline you already have. Second you need the "cross-profile" with all the small details, chamfers, etc. Then you need to use modifier "sweep", apply it on the "rail" and select custom profile you created "cross-section". Here is a gothic window I made using this technique:
RyderSK
Advantage of this approach is it generates proper UVW mapping, which would otherwise be impossible to get.
valeriomanfredi
Thanks for your idea, i will try later. Your rendering is *very* wonderful.
valeriomanfredi
I've tried the sweep modifier, but this is the wrong result i get. Please help me!
Peter M. Gruhn
At points 2 and 4 you want to get rid of the point. slice it off. THat'll make you need to delete and weld, but it shouldn't be too harsh. Or you could go per the attached and make the circle separate. RyderSK
Yes I struggled with too sharp corners as well.. it does this "bug". Chamfer it
Hoa Dinh
I made some screenshots, hope it can help you something. 1. Make a shape, extrude with segments = 60 (or higher if you want the a smooth curve). 2. Convert to poly, select edge, connect with 2 segments. 3. Creat a circle, move to object 1's center. 4. Select object 1, go to geometry -> compound objects -> ShapeMerge, pick the circle.
Hoa Dinh
5. remove messy vertex and edges. 6. Remove first face and a half face on the object
Hoa Dinh
7. Select faces, extrude and insert. maybe it has this problem 8. Use "target weld" to fix it, extrude and insert again . 9. Creat a big circle, convert to spline, remove a half. Cap the first hole on object 1, add symmetry, pathdeform, pick the big arc.
