danb4026
My viewports went black. If I move the mouse around, the names of the underlying elements show, but are hidden. I dont want to restart max because I will lose my frame buffer. Anyone come across this before? anejo
I can't see what version of max you're using, your image is to small, i'm assuming 12. But I've been having the same problem since upgrading to max 12. I did all the software updates, but it still happen on occasion. I thought i maybe ram related, so i upgrade from 8g to 16g, but still happen.
danb4026
I am using 2012 Gilbert. I have 12GB ram, so I don't imagine that is the problem. You seem to confirm that.
BrianKitts
most likely a glitch with the graphics card. Probably going to have to save your frame buffer and restart max.
David Arbogast
On my office PC if I lock my PC (Windows Key + L) and step away for a while, my Max screen will go black just like that. I agree that it's likely a video card issue. In my case it's frustrating because I am running an Autodesk supported Nvidia Quadro card.
danb4026
Well, it looks like a glitch without a fix. I am running a GTX 580 not a quadro, but still shouldn't be an issue.
frog_a_lot
Try turning lights/geometry on and off a few times using the 'hide by category' buttons (little TV looking tab on your right hand panel) Why cant you just save the frame buffer? Justin Hunt
Sometimes if I minimalize then maximise Max it fixes the issue. What windows version are you running? There is a bug with windows7 and multiple monitors, where if you turn you monitors off and on again all the dialogue windows move the the monitor that was first turned on and would often kill the max viewport shading. jhv
danb4026
Nothing worked. I had to shut down Max and reopen. Now its back to ok....it will happen again I am sure of that. I am running Win 7 64, with multiple monitors. The monitors do shut themselves off after about 30 minutes and my mouse click brings them back to life. But the dialogues don't move, just the viewport poops.
Mario De Achadinha
Looks like your graphics card. Are you using the latest drivers for your card and have you checked the autodesk site for the latest sp?
danb4026
I have the latest driver for my card. I also installed SP2 a couple of weeks ago for Max Design 2012. It said it installed fine, but when I look up version info under Max's help menu it doesn't say SP2.....it says Release 14.0 SP1. Not sure what that means or if the installation of SP2 really took.
