Corey Beaulieu Posted December 7, 2011 Share Posted December 7, 2011 It looks like you are rendering with no gi or default lights at all... That said there are a few things in the tutorial you posted that are misleading. The light cache, when used in flythrough mode, needs to be done from the very first frame of the animation, not any frame you choose. Also, it isn't necessary to separate the light cache and irradiance map. You can simply render the file as a primary irradiance map set to multi frame incremental and make sure that you are setting the auto save tab to the same file location or unchecking it entirely. With that setup you can set light cache to flythrough (no save necessary, it stores automatically with irradiance) as the secondary and then render that with your don't render final image and every nth frame setup as instructed. After this completes, set the secondary to none and the primary to irradiance using the from file and choose the map you just saved. Now uncheck don't render final image and set nth frame back to one. Render away. 3300 subd seems high for light cache, but I've never really used world scale, I usual do just fine with screen. I hope this helps... The tutorial seemed good, but your image is definitely one of no gi and no default lights. That's why all you get is a black and white with the white being where light is hitting and reflecting. Corey Beaulieu Posted December 8, 2011 Share Posted December 8, 2011 Your settings look okay. Gamma should be 2.2 but that wouldn't cause the problem in the frame window. When I test this idea on my own machine the only way I could replicate it was the gi off and lights off. Maybe it is a camera thing. What are you using? Vray physical? Try a single frame render with the primary set to irradiance on single frame and the secondary set to light cache set to single frame. If this works then something is wrong in the settings or you are missing a step in the precalc process. If it still dark then it's probably a camera setting. vignette makes images darker so uncheck that and try a lower F for your exposure. I noticed that video makes for a darker shot as well so leave the camera type as a still for this. What is you ISO and shutter speed? Set them to default, 100 and 100. Lastly, in your environment menu (8) make sure that the exposure control roll out is set to no exposure control so that the camera is the only controller. Good luck, I hope you get it figured out.
