Devin Johnston
I'm working on a project with a bunch of these globe lights that are a very prominent part of the image. I'm having problems with getting the light source in the middle of my light to shine bright like the one in the image. I've tried both vray lights and vray light materials (the image posted is using the vraylightmtl) but I can't get the intense highlights seen in this picture. I'm unsure if the problem is with the material or the light it's self so I'm kind of stuck. Anyone got any advice?
Tommy L
Does the red glass part of the light have a thickness? It will need to be a shell if you know what I mean... To get the effect exactly as seen in the picture in the render engine you will need subsurface scattering. However, I'd go for a combination of modeling the filament (real basic, just low poly squiggle) and usng VrayLightMaterial. You will have to crank the multiplier on the material, thats all. Especially if you're using physical camera. Maybe a fallloff in the refraction channel of the red material and use PS for the flares.
vjaramillo
The image your are referring to looks like it was enhanced in post, which is pretty typical. V
BrianKitts
perhaps try using a falloff map in your color for the glass that way it's a lighter red in the middle that allows the light to shine brighter, but then darkens as you move to glancing angles. Francisco Penaloza
I go for the modeling the light as it is in the picture, as mentioned by Tommy L, with filament and all that, and apply a self illuminate material, then if you have VRay 2.x then you can use the glow, shine effects or just add those in post work, there is some plug in online that can do the work. vjaramillo
Las time I used the vray bloom and glare effect it added it to the whole image. Has that been fixed? v

Has that been fixed? v it does apply to the image or you can save it as separate pass to comp later, I did once for try and it work fine, but honestly I always add the glow in After Effects.
