pwharton
I just upgraded to max 12 and I am trying to get the “Tiles” to work. The Grout size keeps coming in large, what I want is a thin “pencil” line between tiles. This worked great in version 10 of max but here it come out wide. At one point I had set the grout to 0.001 and it still looks like the preview attached ( in the attached rendering I had the grout set at 0). Am I missing something or am I just doing something wrong here? Is there a better route to getting what I am looking for in Max 12? Andres del Castillo
Hi, Phillip. As I see it in the image, you are working with real-world units. You should check the 3ds max units or uncheck the checkbox "real-world units" in the texture rollout. I hope that it can solve the problem. pwharton
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
Peter M. Gruhn
The map you're using is the diffuse color, not the bump.
pwharton
Peter M. Gruhn There is a copy of the tiles in the bump slot setup for bump only. andrescr, Turning off the real world units make the grout a little smaller, but created other problems..still working on this problem. Peter M. Gruhn
Darnit. It seemed so simple an answer. I'll have a look, but worry that I won't be able to duplicate the problem in order to fix it. Maybe you need to post a file.
xEndlessxUrbiax
Maybe try to turn the blur down and set the tile grout to be 0.001 instead of 0.0. It's strange that they show up at all when you have the grout size set to 0.
pwharton
xEndlessxUrbiax, I tried that too (seting it to 0.001).. Peter, all I had to get this project done so i modeled the grout line on the floor and got rid of the tiles mapping setting. Thanks all
Ismael
This free tool, Floor Generator, can be used for tiles: http://www.cg-source.com/floorgenerator.php
pwharton
Thanks! This looks great, and is what I needed. Question, I have also downloaded the MultiTexture Map, but I don’t know where to put these files. Do I create a folder for the DLT files and put them in the max 12 file folder? pwharton
I have downloaded the zip file. My question is in which folder in max do you put the files? it does not come with an installer and to have access to it in side of max I am assuming it needs to go to a specific folder? LukeC
I know your project has finished and therefor is a bit late to work out the tiling - but is it a simple case of your editing the material that was not applied to the object? it looks like you have another material very similar in the editor there. salvador
Are the diffuse Tiles and the bump Tiles instanced? Maybe you are trying hard to get it done on the diffuse but you haven't adjusted the bump one. Try disabling the diffuse and work only on the bump one. Also, rise your spinners decimals to 4 so that you can input small values like 0.001 without max rounding them up.
Ismael
Phillip, sorry it took so long. MultiTexture is a Plugin and the correct version need to go inside the Plugin folder of your Max directory. For Max2010 x64 you would copy and paste "MultiTexture_max2010_64.dlt" to the Plugins Folder. To apply to your floor, create a material, click its Diffuse button and select Multitexture and there is a button to Load the Textures. From here you can just view the video. Regards. pwharton
The diffused and bump are the same configuration but separate, the bump is set up as a B&W only file. I like your Idea about changing the decimal points; I forget it ignores my inputs if they are to small. Thanks Ismael, That’s what I needed to know.
