Andrew_Ryan
Studio/Institution: Bournemouth UniversityGenre: OtherSoftware: 3ds Max, VrayWebsite: http://www.andrewryanparker.wordpress.comDescription: A creative piece I am working on for my final year. The aim of the coursework is to take an inspiration image and re-create it in the style of Tim Burton although it has to be recognisable as the original image. Any crits/comments welcome. It's still in the modeling stage at the moment and will have a few changes made (grass is one). All has to modelled by myself, no foliage plug-ins etc. I will post the inspiration image below. Andrew_Ryan
Thanks, guys. It will be on hold for a few weeks as I have to get back to finishing the modeling of my Major Project but will be done by Jan 20th, fully lit, textured etc.
fillethefish
Hi Very nice. Since you are still in model stage i suggest you take another turn on the (concrete?) and make those cracks/brownout part more realistic by adding some overall content with dirt and smaller cracks. i think its odd that there are these holes in a otherwise polished surface. However i don't know what type of texturing you have in mind, perhaps ill find the solution there! Good luck!
Andrew_Ryan
Thanks, I will be breaking up the pillars more when I return to this project. The texturing will also reflect the destruction I was trying to create, lots of moss, cracks etc.
msje
wow....awesome,....looks heavy for me, very nice....great for detailing, maybe you can add more cranny arround the gates
Andrew_Ryan
Does anyone know the maximum file size you can upload images on here? I can't seem to add any images to this thread...
Andrew_Ryan
It would only let me upload a lower-res jpeg. Oh well, a bit of quality lost but at least you can now see where the project went. It's now going to be animated although that won't be for a little while as I have other, more important, projects to continue with. Stan Zaslavsky
looks awesome - well done ... its as if something is lurking around those dark shadows inside.
ABK
Really like the modelling on this. Could be a great image. At the moment though I think the lighting really lets it down. Generally i'd look at highlights and shadows, creatingmore drama in the image. Or moreover, think about the story the image is telling. If the emphasis is the gates then look to draw these out somehow (moonlight?, an external light source of screen?). Or is the emphasis on something down the tunnel, if so illuminate points along the tunnel to pull the viewer in, getting them to ask where they are going. I'd begin by looking at a lot of stills from tim burton films and what he does with lighting. Love to see the next render.
ABK
sorry, meant to post this as well: http://timburtonmoviestills.tumblr.com/ Tim burton uses a lot of low key lighting in his images to create the eerie feeling http://photo.tutsplus.com/tutorials/lighting/the-complete-beginner%E2%80%99s-guide-to-shooting-low-key/
Andrew_Ryan
Now I look at it again, I have to say I agree. Definitely overlooked it a little when I think about it. Pretty sure I know exactly where I've gone wrong too. All good crit!
Umesh Raut
A very good looking image, well done. Though I fail to understand why the rods would bend if surrounding concrete falls off, especially since there's no secondary effect, like falling or dislodged chunk/s of neighboring blocks, that complements the first one. Just a curious little observation that is .
JustinTuaylou
Nice texturing. Looking a bit too dark so far though.
Janwalli
I second Antony. I think you already did a good job on modeling and texturing, if you now manage to improve the lighting, then this will be really nice!
