Trying to get better...

Hey Jason.

This would be the Shaw House by Patkau Architects. This view is of the elevated lap pool over the entry.

The walls seem a little too dark. I think you also could get more illumination under the steel plate roof. If I remember the project, you're missing some plate glass at the bottom of the pool - see if you can out it in. Just for kicks you might to try out some caustics (subtely) or you can fake it. I like the attention to detail you paid to the tile pool curb. Nice.

I'm working on my grad. portfolio now. I have tons of work to do for Fall 2005.

Later bro.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I will throw in the glass bottom and lighten things up a bit. The house is by Patkau Architects Inc. It is called the Vancouver House. I can't seem to find pictures online of the house, and my scanner is broke. It is from April 2002 issue. I will repost when finished. How do I do caustics. I can't seem to get it to work right. The map seems all wrong.

Xavier, are you going back to grad school? Can't wait to see the portfolio.

Yes, Jason I'm headed back. I actually foolishly enough going to make a career of architecture so I'd need to be registered for my own sake. Plus, grad school is a great place to get back to dreaming!

Viz4 doesn't have caustics built-in but you can fake it using projector lights (google search or search CGA for fake caustics). Something along the lines of placing an image in the map slot will give you simluated caustics. I thought you were using MR w/ max 6? Mental Ray has caustics built-in.

later.

Here is the new and improved image. I still can't get the caustic reflections right, and all the tutorials use materials and not the projector map. I do recall a enclosed swimming pool tutorial done by someone that talks about how to do the relections. Does any one happen to know what the link is? Thanks for your help.
