It depends on what you want to do really. ArchiCAD is both a modelling and drafting software. Which means that you can create Architectural Construction Documents (CDs) for construction purposes as well as 3D-models for rendering. However the current rendering engine is extremely weak compared to other dedicated rendering software out there, although for the new version they have upgraded it. It does allow you to export the 3D model to other 3D-modelling/Rendering applications ( VIZ, MAX, Lightwave, Maya etc) and to render them there, giving you the best of both worlds.

VIZ, on the other hand is not a drafting tool to any degree. It is strictly and primarily and modelling and rendering application; and a very powerful one at that ( and of course with the requisite steep learning curve). It relies on having ready made blueprints or plans from AutoCAD or some other drafting software to enable one to be able to accurately make a model from scratch. But like I said before, it has a very powerful rendering engine producing very photorealistic renders and images.

If you're interest is only in visualization ( modelling and rendering) then VIZ is the way to go (assuming you are prepared to learn a lot) . But if you are looking for an true architetural modelling and documentation software, then ArchiCAD isn't abad place to start as it is also not as difficult to learn for one who is in the profession and used to the conventions
