ryan mallia
as a freelancer one of my biggest challenges is will i have enough work in the coming months. its always hard to shift focus when working on a project, and concentrate on new business. deadlines are always deadlines and in my position the client cant visualise what i have in mind if i explain the concept its fine but when i am thinking of the edited footage combining sound , 3d and live footage its hard to explain .all this has a price and when i submit the quote ......its not always positive.i hate loosing jobs and many a time spend days thinking up a concept for nothing. William Alexander
Marketing and sales are always challenging, no matter what business your in. AND you do have a business. Some take off with seamingly little or no effort, some require a focused and consistant marketing and sales. The freelance opperation is cool, but you need to be aware of the entrepenurial traps. You problem is not unique and ranks in the top 1-3 on the list of reasons for burn out and failure. Most businesses have a marketing and sales budget starting at no less than 10% of the gross income. In your case maybe devoting 10% or 1 hour per day minimum to this cause might help. This may Yeild results and take away a little stress. Consider brushing up on marketing and sales. YOUR TIME is very, very, valuable and you need a goal and plan to get there. As far as losing jobs... why did this perspective client not use your services, how can you change this perception and get awarded more work. Consider this... Some times the best job is the one you did not get... also consider... how one bad job can bring the freelancing to a sudden stop. for what it maybe worth...WDA
