DAN212222
HOW DO YOU GUYS MODEL? do you plan in autocad then model in render in 3ds max? plan and model in autocad then render in 3ds max? or is it simply a case of preference? just finished learning the basics of 3ds max used autocad for years now, and ive just ordered lighting and rendering by jeremy birn to get my final processes up to scratch. was just wondering how you guys go about it any info would be appreciated cheers dan soon to posting work on the forum with a bit of luck
STRAT
why 3dstudio max??? i 95% model in autocad, due to the superior modelling natrue of a CAD package over a 3d rendering app, then visualise in Cinema 4D. bottom line tho is do what you feel suits you best. there is no right or wrong or better or worse. homeros
i think for big projects,or with a lot of details, its better to do the desing in autocad then render in 3dmax for the simple project, i think its better to work directly in 3d max off the subject, try using brazil ar vray for rendring,it will give you better results
marckie258
hi Dan! if i have a big projects i usually do the 3d in CAD and render it in MAX. but for small one i'll do it directly in MAX. i agree with Strat also to do what you feel suits you best. try to use plug-ins also for max. DAN212222
cheers lads, appreciate the help just having a play around at the moment dont really like modelling in 3ds max compared to c4d just seams very fiddly and not as well layed out, just my opionon think i may have another look at c4d cheers again
STRAT
i dont model in c4d, i use acad. but c4d's rendering/material interface is a zillion times easier, more intuetive than max's, and the render output is even better to imo. the only thing thats a complete no-go for c4d modelling from scratch is it's 2d and spline modelling, it really is absolutely pants, and until Maxon seriously address the problem it'll remain pants. Brolloks
Used to take it to DataCAD, but now I erase all the junk from the ACad file and do the model in Max.
zamalkawy
i agree with arquiteck09 i model everything in max and using mentalray as a rederer.
Jim Mann
typically I will clean up the plans in max, import only what I need and then do ALL the modelling in Max. Rendering is then with either Brazil or Vray (previously used to be Lightscape)... ....and then a ton of work in Photoshop.
sygboe
take the plan from ACAD n do all in max... it gave me full control... Hi anvaraziz. i'd like to start modeling purly in max to give complete control too. only using pland an elis imported form acad. can i ask what your process is? would you model each building as one object and assign material id's to all the parts? say you have a building with repetitions of the same window, would you make instances of them? or make a seperate little model and xref in? or would the building be made of many objects in groups and layers? i currently can fluently model in sketchup. but am trying to create realistic models (i've used the sketchup vray plugin and just feel limited). i feel that it is possible to get to a stage of modeling as fast as sketchup soley in max, but i find it hard doing the simplest of things. Guest nazcaLine
model everything in max. just bring the floor plan and elevations from cad. i started modeling in cad and thought i'd never model in max.it looked so different and weird! however, the ton of changes i had to make due to client request, and even more in very complex models, forced me to learn to model in max, and it was the best decision i've done. i strongly recommend it to you. look for the ted boardman and montree tutorials in this site, "resources" tab. you'll learn a lot. cheers Eduardo
Claudio Branch
Modeling in a single app is only warranted when the task at hand can be executed efficiently and elegantly from that app. Does a painter use the same brush for every part of a painting? A good one doesn't! Modeling is art. Choose the app or combination of apps that is the most efficient and even more importantly, the approach that makes you enjoy something that is usually called "work."
