architectd3
Hello! I have a problem with my viewports in 3dsmax design 2010, they work very, very slow. Max displays about 1 frame/s when i try to move box or any other simple object. Its really hard to work with this framerate and i have to disable viewports. Scene has about 11000 objects, but only 400 000 polys. Even in simpler scenes with about 3000 objects and 200 000 polys, viewports work very slow, and there is no differance in performance compared to simple gforce video cards. Also there are new drivers installed on the system, and maxs display driver is 3dsmaxpd.drv . arch. Edited January 3, 2012 by architectd3
D@VE
Few option you can take a look into 1. turn off progressive display 2. does you object have lots of modifier if so try to collapse modifier for objects 3. if some of the object has too much poly, then change it to display as box 4. any 0 poly object these are just some of the things you can check .. but it could be other issue... good luck

Could You tell me where is "progressive display" setting? None of the objets has any modifier, except default "edit mesh", and they are low poly, about 400faces/object. RyderSK
Both 11000 and 3000 are extreme amounts of objects imho. Do you work with layers ? What kind of objects are that ? Instances ? Use point cloud from v-ray mesh to display them. Use exrefs to save this data to separate file. Organize your scene. It's easier for system to handle large amount of polys compared to wast amount of objects, since they all use new drawcall from you graphic card. architectd3
hmm... scene has been imported from sketchup, it works without problems on ordinary gforce card. Every piece of balcony railing is separated and instanced , this generates this amount of objects, but in general scene is not very heavy. Things look better in max 2012, but it does not displays textures with vray 1.5...
RyderSK
The same scene display fine with gforce ? Might be driver problem then. Are you using these ? http://www.nvidia.com/page/partner_certified_drivers.html
architectd3
No, i mean, that this scene works great on open glide in sketchup. When i switch to open gl in max, it works even worser than on quadro driver. There are most recent drivers installed on this computer.
RyderSK
Your card is newer than Max version but anyway... did you try regular geforce drivers with directx 9 ?
architectd3
Yes i did , it even worser than it was on other drivers. I was trying different configurations, and nothing works. The last idea is to reinstall system with newst drivers :/
