file linking not available for 3ds max 6 EDU

I have a student version of 3ds max 6 and when the file-linking update has been made available, it was only for subscription users. But my student version is not upgradable and cannot be put into subscription (I'm in Belgium - it was a 24-month license).

 

So the only solution, AFAIK, is downgrading to VIZ 2005 (well, actually adding VIZ 2005, since 'upgrading' is not possible) or waiting for max 7 and then adding it (since, again, upgrading is not possible).

 

Any other solutions?
