3dvizual
Hi. I can't seem to get my vray RT to work properly. I can't get vray to open a separate window for the active shade, and I can't get vray to render a selected window. My 3ds max crashes often when i try to turn on the active shade. Anyone else has these problems.?
datacrasher
vizual To my knowleadge active shade only works with the scanline render and mental ray. i am not sure if it will work with Vray. Have you got the lastest service and hot-pick patches from the autodesk website?
3dvizual
Vray is an active shade render. Text from the vray manual (Open the Render Setup dialog and choose V-Ray interactive renderer as the current ActiveShade renderer. ) But my active shade will not turn on. I have assigned the VRAY RT 2.20.01 as the current active shade render. When I see the log, I can see that vray is loading the images and so on, but no window pops up. For a couple of days ago it worked for a half an hour or so, when i selected a new viewport the active shade window rendered the selected window. I have no clue what I am doing wrong. My computer makes noise like it is working hard.
datacrasher
mmmm ok i was wrong as usual vray has its own active shade the one in max only uses the p.view that why i always have the p.view locked down so it cannot render from another view. what kind of noses are you getting from your computer is it a ticking sound like a clock? if so then your hard drive is on it's way out you'll need to buy another one...... 3dvizual
No it is the sound of a computer working hard (like when i am doing a normal render) When I close the active shade the computer slows down.
datacrasher
mmm i am not sure, maybe you don't have enough ram, as your scene gets bigger and max will use a lot more ram some-times your computer will slow down so i would not use active shade. because your pc is working too hard. as active shade updates you're scene automatically without you needing to render. 3dvizual
I have 16 gb of ram. Geforce 580 The active shade window will not open on any active shade render engines. So maybe it is a 3ds max problem and not vray.?

3dvizual
OK. Thanks for your help. that didn't help either. Really strange. I have tried reinstalled 3ds max, no luck either. I have written to chaosgroup, I hope they can help me.
